Midjourney Prompts and Images for a Sci-Fi Game

Use the following prompts as inspiration to create your own AI images, or feel free to just nab the pictures themselves. These were created in Midjourney using version 5.1.

In Space

stars, space and colorful nebula

I wanted to see what Midjourney would come up with using just a very simple prompt for this. I wasn’t disappointed. These would make great images to project onto a screen for during space travel or just in quieter game moments to help set the mood.

Feel free to grab this and use it as you see fit.

D&D, or Dungeons & Dragons, is one of the most popular TTRPGs in the gaming world! Delight your players with dynamic sessions, exciting one shots, and loads of fun NPC surprises! A D&D game is a great way to brighten up your week.

a giant space monster inspired by a whale, dangerous, hiding in nebula

I had to include a space whale, of course. These are terrifying. I thought the first one was the scariest, but I loved the ship for scale in the second. Take a closer look below.

This is the scariest thing I’ve seen all week.

He may appear to be smiling, but that doesn’t make him any less terrifying.

On Land

high definition, dystopian city on a foreign planet, two moons, detailed maximalist background, neon lights, smokey, moonlight, award-winning photo –ar 3:2 –s 750

These all came out really excellent, but I thought the reflective river and fire in the second one was particularly striking. In case you want one that isn’t burning to the ground, I also blew up the others for you.

The tall spires fading far into the distance suggest this could be a full planet cityscape.

Something about multiple moons is so exciting. I love all the planets and moons in this image.

There are an infinite number of Midjourney prompts you can use for your sci-fi game campaign when creating environments or images of characters.

Feel free to grab any of these to help set the scene in your game. I love showing my players as many pictures as possible to build mood and give them a little surprise to enjoy when I can.

a beautiful, alien landscape on an undiscovered planet

The first and third landscapes were the most appealing to me, so I upscaled them and took the people out for you.

It’s not really undiscovered if there are people there when your players arrive, is it?

Inside the Ship

The retro-futuristic analog technology and loads of houseplants give this spaceship a ton of personality. They even have a little snow globe.

Characters

a full body shot of a model wearing a science fiction dress in a dystopian bar, in the style of a Vogue photo editorial, flawless glowing skin –ar 9:16 –s 750

Of these results, I felt the second and fourth images were the most interesting. The first one was a bit too revealing for my taste. For some reason, AI has been trained to think that humans overwhelmingly want to see women in revealing outfits. I wonder why that is….

I really like this character portrait. She looks to me like you want to be on her good side. Maybe a small-time crime lord (lady) in a large criminal organization, finding herself in over her head? I love the Tron-like glow embedded into the fabric of her dress.

I love the lights in the back of her dress and along the collar. She looks to me like she will absolutely stab you in the back.

Generally speaking, Midjourney will assume you want a female model unless you specify otherwise.

intergalactic beauty in a painterly style

I was actually hoping for more of a space image for this, but the Midjourney AI assumed by “beauty” I must mean a human female. Either way, the pictures came out pretty great. I love their haunted expressions.

Easy Gaming Room Upgrade

And if you want to really elevate your game space, check out this starry night projector on Amazon. It’s an easy way to make your gaming room feel a bit more immersive. They have versions with or without the galaxy spiral, depending on your preference.

Adding room lights is one of my favorite ways to enhance a space without permanent modifications.
