About Me

My name is Lisa, and I’ve been running Dungeons & Dragons games for nearly twenty years.

I’ve played in dozens of campaigns and ran other systems as well, including Shadowrun, Dread, Blades in the Dark, Deadlands via Savage Worlds, and GURPS. I’ve also taken modules from other systems and adapted them to the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset, including Monte Cook’s Darkest House.

While I often utilize adventure modules in part, I never follow them and end up making tons of homebrew content to delight my players.

I believe tabletop roleplaying games make the world a richer and more interesting place, and give people an opportunity to connect in ways that would otherwise be impossible.

The goal of Malice Inn & Tavern is to empower new players and Game Masters, giving them advice, support, and confidence to enjoy the roleplaying games of their choice.

Malice began as a 3.5e drow wizard I created for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

Who is Malice?

Malice began as a character I created for a campaign in Dungeons & Dragons 3.5e. She was an outcast drow, discarded from her family in Menzoberranzan because of her desire to study arcane arts as a wizard, instead of becoming a cleric as her station demanded.

Malice’s disdain for Lolth’s cruelty and her family’s penchant for horrific acts drove Malice to find a different life, above the surface of the Forgotten Realms.

How Malice Inn & Tavern Was Born

In a recent campaign arc I ran, my players’ party encountered a False Hydra, which is a homebrew monster that eats memories (and people).

As a fun twist for the party, I planted items that belonged to my old 3.5e character Malice in their inventories. After the ensuing fight, in an emotional moment, they realized the monster had eaten one of their party members, Malice, as well as their memories of her.

Over the course of the campaign, we wove this into the fabric of their story, leading eventually to her (costly) resurrection and rejoining the group as a noncombatant. My players even opened a tavern and chose to name it after their fallen comrade.

Malice Inn & Tavern was born.

Why This Site?

I began this site as a way to communicate some of the lessons I’ve learned over the years as a Dungeon Master and player, and as a vessel to share my homebrew content. My goal is to help both new and experienced players feel the full spectrum of emotions that come with being part of a truly meaningful campaign.

This means having confidence in how the game is run and played at the table, and that’s something I have a wealth of experience in. I want to share this with you to help you make your games more fun, longer lasting, and a more positive experience for everyone involved.

There is so much richness and social value to enjoy in a tabletop game, and I hope to make the experience more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

I am here to help, so make sure to send me an email using info in the footer or a message on any of the socials if you have questions, need help with something in your game, or if you just want to say hi! Thanks for stopping by. Roll high!
